The Grand Prix
“The Feast”
directors Ralf Kiefner and Peter Spielmann, Germany
A cool and complex natural history action movie about the sardine run on the shores of South Africa. A comprehensive natural phenomena is told in such a dynamic way that the jury watched it with excitement and astonishment. A perfect combination of modern editing techniques and classical wildlife film style. A film that hardly can be forgotten.

I prize
 Category “Nature”
“Prince of the Alps”
directors Klaus Feichtenberger and Otmar Penker, Austria
A nature film about a deer calf with a moving storyline of a feature film. It also reveals that seemingly harmless human intrusion can have devastating effects on wildlife, something that we rarely see in natural history films but which is important.
 Category “Man and Nature”
“The Return of the Musk Ox”
director Vassili Sarana, Estonia
The tension between the film's subject and the filmmakers who have bravely put themselves into the story, truly captured our attention from the very beginning until the very last moment. Moreover, the story was interwoven with brilliant music.
Special Prize of the Jury
“Jellyfish – Leathal Beauty”
director Florian Guthknecht, Germany/France
This film changes the stereotypic views about the little known jellyfish. Thanks to the entertaining storytelling, the jury was amazed to realize that it's not all about the brain...
“Waterlands”
director Mark Percival, UK
A very educating and informative film about the last waterlands in Britain. The strong environmental message is told through excellent camerawork.
Best Director
 Category “Nature”
“Polar Bears – Living on Thin Ice”
director Thomas Behrend, Germany
Thrilling, fascinating, amazing storytelling – there are no words to describe it.
 Category “Man and Nature”
“Valuable Weeds”
director Oh Kyu Ik, Korea
A difficult and unattractive subject that the director managed to tell in a bright way. He succeeded to destroy the preconception about these plants and turned the jury into weed lovers.
Best Photography
 Category “Nature”
“The Crayfish in the Jam Jar”
director Jan Haft, Germany
The poetic cinematography in The Crayfish in the Jam Jar reveals the hidden beauty of daily things usually remaining unnoticed. The tools of a cinematographer are used in a very intelligent way that is rarely seen in documentaries.
 Category “Man and Nature”
“The Return of the Musk Ox”
director Vassili Sarana, Estonia
Through the impressing scenes of The Return of the Musk Ox the viewers get the real feeling about tough forces of a harsh environment. One even starts to feel the cold and the wind in front of the screen thanks to the pictures of a highly skilled cameraman.
Highly Commended Diplomas
"Breaking the Ice, Arctic Style"
director Kurt Salo, Norway
This film is an excellent link between the history of oceanography and modern days’ climate change research. At the same time it gives a deep and intelligent view on how extraordinary Nansen's expedition was.
"When Tisza is in Flower"
director Scabolcs Mosonyi, Hungary
A dramatic film with a good concept that illustrates the short life cycle of mayflies in the Tisza river of Hungary.
"Fish on!"
directors Liivo Niglas, Diane Perlow and Frode Storaas, Estonia/Norway/USA
Fish On is a heart-warming observational documentary of local traditions and the fragile salmon ecosystem through the eyes of native American people.
