Breakpoint: A Counter History of Progress

Program: Regular

DirectorJean-Robert Viallet

Country of Origin: France

Year of Release: 2018

Duration of the Film: 99 min

Synopsis:

It is still being debated whether humankind has changed the planet irreversibly. Were the developments of coal and oil the final nails in Earth’s coffin? Could the planet have looked very different now? Today progress is our reason for being, providing us with better ways of living. But progress has also given us napalm, pesticides, nuclear waste and global warming. Recently, research and warnings have intensified. To scientists, these facts are very real, and they consider our times a new geological era. BREAKPOINT looks back at 200 years of development to provide an alternative view of our history of progress.
