Amazon Alive. Part 3. Forest of the Future
It is hard not to feel despair at the overwhelming images of rainforest destruction. But while documenting the region's remarkable wildlife, film-maker Christian Baumeister has also witnessed a changing mood: a growing belief that it is more valuable as a living forest than being stripped for it's wood and minerals. Christian discovers that an increasing respect for the Amazon's natural wonders can translate into hope for the future.

The Measure of Man
Is the environmental crisis really a crisis of environment or is it the crisis of our aspirations, values and habits? We have spent a lot of energy to change the environment to meet our needs, our measure. Now we are prepared to spend even more to avoid the consequences of the changes we have caused. But is it not the time for us to change ourselves? “The Measure of Man” captures the atmosphere of anticipation, change looming in the air, the end of story as they are experienced by a well-off lawyer Karam in the rush of Manhattan (NYC, USA), a young barber Serkan in the ancient town of Hasankeyf in Southern Anatolia, Turkey, Sinh Moun and his wife Bo Chiout - a family of fishermen - on pictorial Lake Tonlé Sap in the heart of Cambodia and Hannes, a publisher in the all-eco quarter Vauban in Freiburg in Southern Germany.

Nyamgiri – You Are Still Alive
Nyamgiri Hills are situated in the Eastern Ghats of Orissa, India. Indigenous primitive groups have been living on the Nyamgiri and its foothills since time immemorial. It was here that 10 000 crore mighty Vedanta/Sterlite Group came to mine bauxite. These indigenous groups live within the Reserved Forest where the mines are to be located. They depend on the forests for their livelihood and also have religious and cultural ties to it. It is ecologically sensitive and is one of the richest areas of biodiversity in the subcontinent. Bauxite reserves are found only on peaks above 1000 metres. Mining of the hill top involving heavy equipment and blasting, would completely destroy the rich bio-diversity. Since 2003 various local, national and international groups have been battling Vedanta. On August 24th, 2010 the Ministry of Environment and Forests, in India denied environmental clearance for Vedanta to mine bauxite in the Nyamgiri Hills.

This film tells the true story of an individual, from his birth in a Central European lowland forest, his upbringing among his siblings to his arduous migration to Scandinavia and a dramatic lead poisoning that almost ends his life.

Gray-Faced Buzzard
The grey-faced buzzard is found in the rural area of Tochigi Prefecture in central Japan. Compared with other birds of prey, the buzzard is not a very skillful hunter. This buzzard feeds on frogs that appear at rice paddies in spring and insects that fill the groves of miscellaneous trees. Hunter shows the rich chain of life sustained in the "satoyama" by focusing on the survival of the greyfaced buzzard.
